Japan Bioindustry Association
JBA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of bioscience, biotechnology
and bioindustry in both Japan and the rest of the world. Established through the support
and cooperation of industry, academia, and government, JBA is the only organization of
its kind in Japan. JBA's roots date back more than 50 years to the establishment of the
Japanese Association of Industrial Fermentation. Today, like its predecessor organization,
the JBA functions as a think tank and platform for communication between scientists,
technologist, policymakers and managers.
Japan Health Sciences Foundation
The Japan Health Sciences Foundation, aims to make a contribution to health and welfare
of mankind by promoting the advancement of health sciences. Their objective is to promote
research in advanced and basic science and technology in the field of health sciences, as
well as enriching their basic knowledge.
Japan Biological Informatics Consortium
JBIC, with the participation of a broad range of industries, was founded in November 1998.
The objectives of JBIC are to speed up research and development by applying information
technology to the biotechnology industry and to create new industries in the biotechnology
field. JBIC was reorganized in July 2000 as a non-profit organization under the auspices of
five ministries and agencies (currently 4 ministries) with interests in the biotechnology field.
Under the Biotechnology Strategy Guidelines established by the government in December
2002, JBIC is expected to play a central role in liaising with industry in order to steadily and
efficiently facilitate application of information technology (IT) to the biotechnology (Bio-BT)
world. JBIC will contribute to the creation of new industries by establishing BIO-IT
infrastructure to be used in all bioindustries, by fostering individuals, well versed in both
biotechnology and information technology and also by promoting the standardization of life
sciences data through international cooperation.
Japan Association of Bioindustries Executives JABEX
JABEX brings together executives from a wide range of Japan's bioindustries to tackle various
issues on bioindustries, propose solutions and take appropriate actions to ensure their sound
growth and development
Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA)
Japan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (JPMA) is a voluntary organization of research-
based pharmaceutical manufacturers which has 70 members (as of July 1, 2008). Committed to
a patient-oriented approach, the JPMA's members have been contributing to global healthcare
through the development of new ethical drugs. Multiple activities are being carried out, including
finding solutions to common issues in the pharmaceutical industry, campaigning to gain a public
understanding of pharmaceuticals, and international cooperation. The Association aims to support
the sound development of the industry by proactively establishing policies and recommendations,
responding to globalization, and reinforcing public relations.
